Great NW Wine: October wine of the week

Martin-Scott Shaw Vineyard, Red Mountain

Rating: Outstanding!

Wenatchee Valley grower/ winemaker, Mike Scott goes outside of this estate program for this superb example of Malbec from acclaimed Red Mountain.  This provides aromas and flavors of blackberry, cranberry and even hints of floral notes, all backed with spice and beautiful balance through the finish.  Its a wine that earned a gold medal at the NCW Wine awards.

2012 Needlerock Vineyard Tempranillo, Columbia Valley

Great Northwest Wine

“The Scott family established their Tempranillo block adjacent to their Montepulciano vines and both are producing noteworthy wines from their bucolic East Wenatchee, Washington estate. Mike and Judi’s work with this Iberian variety begins with a fascinating influence of oak reminiscent of vanilla bean, caramel and molasses that leads into black cherry, strawberry jam and graham cracker crust. It is rich and rustic drink with strawberry-rhubarb compote followed by black current, more black cherry and a late tug of tannin.
