Montepulciano is a variety named after a Tuscan parish of Montepulciano. It is grown on our Needlerock Vineyard overlooking the Columbia River in soils that are sandy, toward gravel and quite lean and arid. Montepulciano has a separate identity, unusual in some regard. Red cherry and raspberry on the nose. Bright minerality, pie cherry and bakers chocolate on the palate. Tobacco and tea leaves on the finish. It has gentile tannins, moderate acidity, strong color and is quite approachable.
Poultry, lasagna, couscous with meat, Middle Eastern fare, veggie pizza, Greek cuisine. Cheeses include sheep cheese, Monterey Jack, Havarti, Edam, and Crottin.
Aged 18 months in oak barrels. Small amounts of Grenache, Aglianico and Barbera were added. pH 3.23 Brix 23.8 and TA 0.74. Alcohol 14.0
